LSSU aims to supplement saltwater aquarium

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)– A team of students and faculty at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie is trying to expand the school’s 160-gallon saltwater aquarium display.

The school says donations are being sought for the project and will be matched through Thursday by the university’s Fisheries and Wildlife Club. Donations will be used to buy fish, invertebrates and corals.

The aquarium is in the main lobby of Crawford Hall. It is home to six fish, including a pair of clownfish. Two species of shrimp, two species of starfish and a colony of hermit crabs and snails also are in the aquarium. Coral grows on a rock wall in the tank, allowing students to observe the complexities of a coral reef.
