Rollover accident kills one

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI– A Big Bay man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover accident over the weekend.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the crash happened Saturday just after 3 a.m. on County Road 550 south of County Road KH. The northbound vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a snow bank, rolled over, and struck the guy wire of a utility pole. Michael Abbott, 21, of Big Bay—the only passenger found in the vehicle—was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was later found hospitalized for her injuries.

Investigation led to the identification of a 33-year-old Big Bay woman as the driver of the car. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated, causing death and lodged in the Marquette County Jail. The suspect’s name is being withheld, pending arraignment.
