AuTrain officials watching river levels

AuTRAIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   AuTrain Township is dealing with flooding along the AuTrain River, thanks to days of rain.

In a Facebook post Supervisor Michelle Doucette said the river was rising and water in the Forest Lake Dam would be flowing over the spillway by Thursday morning. She contacted dam owner World Renewable Energies, who said the AuTrain basin was reaching critical levels and they couldn’t stop the flow of water as they normally do.

Doucette also notified the Michigan Department of Transportation, saying the mouth of the river appeared to be on the verge of plugging.

Doucette says property owners should be proactive, as the ground is saturated and streams and rivers are overflowing.

Alger County Emergency Management has been notified.
