Baraga to host mobile food pantry this week

BARAGA, MI--   A mobile food pantry is coming to Baraga on Wednesday.

Feeding America West Michigan, the Western UP Food Bank, and Finlandia University Campus Ministry will host the event at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Baraga High School. The mobile pantry will contain a variety of foods, including fresh produce.

Clients will not have to show identification or proof of income to receive food; however, they will need to provide basic contact information and affirm that they’re in need of food. Clients are encouraged to bring their own boxes and carts.

Food insecurity affects one in eight people in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Last year, Feeding America West Michigan delivered 11.9 million pounds of food to that region.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
