Car crashes into Ishpeming school bus

ISHPEMING, MI--   Several children suffered minor injuries when a car hit a school bus in Ishpeming Wednesday.

City Police were called around 8 a.m. to the intersection of US-41 and Hickory Street. They say a 25-year-old Marquette woman was driving a Dodge Avenger westbound on the highway. An Ishpeming Public Schools bus driven by a 24-year-old Ishpeming man was northbound on Hickory when it tried to cross the highway.  The car struck the bus, which hit a utility pole. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Eleven children on the bus were injured—most of them minor in nature and none life-threatening. They were all treated and released.

The driver of the avenger was admitted into the hospital for treatment. Her injuries were also non-life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Ishpeming Police at 486-4416.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
