Drug ring in Soo area busted

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team has dismantled an illegal prescription drug ring in Chippewa County.

Tuesday six people were arrested on a total of 20 felony counts for narcotics-related offenses.  Charges include delivery of a controlled substance and maintaining a drug house.  UPSET identified a 68-year-old woman as a major supplier of drugs in the area.  The other suspects range in age from 28 to 56.

A search of a Sault Ste. Marie home uncovered evidence identifying illegal drug proceeds deposited in various bank accounts totaling more than $12,000.  More than $750 in cash was also seized.

All suspects remain lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.  Names are being withheld, pending arraignment.

The case remains under investigation.
