Endangered bird coming back
LANSING, MI-- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the endangered Kirtland’s warbler is doing well.
The DNR recently released annual survey information indicating the population of the warbler is at an all-time high. Officials say 2,063 singing males were observed during the official survey period—258 more than were observed in 2011. That represents the largest single-year increase since 2007.
Surveyors identified 38 singing males in Alger, Baraga, Chippewa, Delta, Luce, Marquette, and Schoolcraft counties, 2,025 in 12 Northern Lower Peninsula counties, and 27 in Wisconsin and Ontario.
