Forsyth Township Police arrest man for infant's death

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gwinn man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 4-month-old baby.

The Forsyth Township Police Department took Randy James Tuominen, 32, into custody Wednesday on a three-count felony warrant. The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges of homicide – felony murder and two counts of 1st-degree child abuse.

Officials say the incident happened the morning of September 29 on the 100 block of Constellation Street, when emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive infant. An investigation followed.

Tuominen was located at his parents’ home in Ely Township and lodged in the Marquette County Jail. Bond will be set at his arraignment.

The Department of Human Services Child Protection Division and Marquette County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
