Gibbons rows into Chicago following Lake Michigan journey

CHICAGO, IL (AP)--   A Chicago woman who completed her 1,500-mile trip around Lake Michigan despite being sexually assaulted along the way is back at home and plans to share her experiences by writing a book.

Jenn Gibbons rowed into Chicago on Tuesday and cried with happiness when she saw members of the rowing team she co-founded for breast cancer survivors cheering her on from shore.

Gibbons was sexually assaulted six weeks ago by a man who crept aboard her boat while she was moored in Mackinac County. She says she expects writing a book will help her heal from the experience.

Gibbons adds that she was overwhelmed by the support she's gotten, including a Chicago flag given to her by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel with the words "You've got this" written on it.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
