NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI-- State lawmakers and trades officials attended the groundbreaking of a new skilled trades training center in Negaunee Wednesday afternoon.
The 30,000 square-foot facility will include areas for carpenters and millwrights to gain real-world experience. The center will also contain areas for woodshop training and welding booths to help members hone specialized skills.
A national report indicates 60 percent of contractors had trouble finding skilled workers in the last year. Executive Director of the Architectural Contractors Trade Association, Donna Pardonnet, says the Negaunee Township center will be good for business, the economy, and Upper Peninsula apprentices.
Construction is expected to take a year.
