Group stocks walleye near the Soo
SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--
An outdoors group has released at least 2,000 walleye fish into the St. Marys River southeast of Sault Ste. Marie.
The fish released Tuesday measure about 8 inches long. The St. Mary's River Sportsman's Club made the release in Chippewa County's Bruce Township.
Club President Pat Cleary says this is the 12th year the group has released walleye. Cleary says it's helped stock about 100,000 fish in that time.
Group representative Jan Keely says members clipped the left pectoral fin on all the fish before their release. That's designed to help track how many of the fish end up being caught later on.
Cleary says funding for the walleye plantings comes through the annual "Fish Raffle."
