Identity of arrested Republic Township man revealed

MARQUETTE, MI--    Officials have released the name of a Republic Township man arrested on a felonious assault charge. 

Xavier Gonzalez, 51, was taken into custody over the weekend after Michigan State Police executed a search warrant at a residence on M-95 near Witch Lake. He was arraigned Monday on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident allegedly happened last Thursday.

Gonzalez remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

A probable cause conference is set for June 20 in Marquette District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
