LaPalmes break-in suspect lodged in Delta County for stealing truck

MARQUETTE, MI--   A person of interest in the break-in of LaPalmes Country Corner in Wells Township is lodged at the Delta County Jail for unlawfully driving away an automobile.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office believes the man stole a pickup and broke into the store on July 1st or 2nd. Stolen property was loaded into the truck, which later crashed on Little West Road and overturned into the Little West Branch of the Escanaba River. The vehicle was later discovered by a logger.

The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered numerous items belonging to the suspect, along with store property.

Officials say the afternoon of the 2nd a pickup was also stolen from the Blackrocks Brewery parking lot in Marquette and later recovered in Escanaba. Police suspect the same man robbed LaPalmes and took the truck.

Officials are asking for the public’s help to see if someone had observed or assisted the subject in getting from southern Marquette County to the City of Marquette that Monday morning or afternoon. He was wearing a light-colored short-sleeve shirt, possibly light green pants, a similarly colored baseball hat, and was carrying a yellow backpack.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office at 225-8470.
