Lost hikers found in Hogsback hiking area

MARQUETTE, MI--   Four Indiana residents had to be rescued from the Hogsback hiking area after they became lost Monday.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies say the family was hiking on the Blue Trail when they lost their way. Leo McNellis, 52, of South Bend, his wife Analyn, 42, and their 11- and 9-year-old children called 911 around 5 p.m. They said they needed help getting back to the parking lot at Wetmore Pond.

Using GPS from the 911 call, Search and Rescue volunteers found the family about a half-mile west of the parking lot.

No one suffered any injuries, and the family was escorted back to their vehicle.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
