NMU to unveil new garden, statue, mobile app

MARQUETTE, MI--   Three things will debut at Northern Michigan University this semester.

A perennial flower memorial garden has been established through a lead gift by Marquette resident Mona Lang to honor her late husband and former NMU Provost Paul L. Lang, Junior. It will be dedicated

September 14 just west of Jamrich Hall.

A New Jersey studio was commissioned to create a bronze wildcat statue. It was made possible through a gift from the estate of former Board of Trustees Chair Gil Ziegler. The statue—which will be adjacent to the garden—will be dedicated September 21.

And Northern is rolling out a new mobile app. The new version provides enhanced services like calendars and events, course schedule, grades, and an NMU directory, among others. It will be available for download on August 27.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
