Peter White library offering Food for Fines

MARQUETTE, MI--   Peter White Public Library is partnering with the TV6 Canathon to help feed a hungry neighbor by serving as a collection point for food items.

Nonperishable food for local pantries will be collected at the library from November 12 through December 5.

As an added incentive Peter White is offering Food for Fines. It allows library users to resolve overdue fines or get a free DVD rental with the donation of food. Those who bring in one item to the library’s circulation desk can exchange it for $1.00 in overdue fines or a film rental. There is no limit to the dollar amount of fines that can be waived.

The TV6 Canathon began in 1982 with 700 pounds of food collected.  Last year, the collection had grown to 157,300 pounds of food, all of which was distributed in 10 Upper Peninsula counties.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
