Phone scams threaten Marquette residents

MARQUETTE, MI--   Crooked callers continue to ply their trade in the Marquette area.

The City Police Department says it’s received numerous complaints about residents receiving phone scams. Some of the calls are automated and request the victim call a phone number. The scammer says the resident needs to respond to charges or allegations, or they’ll be arrested.

Marquette Police remind citizens never to respond to that type of call or text. Also, never give out personal information over the phone or send money to anyone unless you’re certain who you’re speaking to.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
