Plane narrowly avoids deer at Gogebic-Iron County Airport

IRONWOOD, MI--   Officials are investigating an airplane accident at the Gogebic-Iron County Airport.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday just before 10 a.m. A single-engine private plane with one occupant was conducting touch-and-go maneuvers when a doe and fawn ran across the runway. The pilot veered to avoid the deer and damaged a wheel assembly on the plane.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Investigation into the accident has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
