Readers could get money from internet book price-fixing suit

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan's attorney general says state residents will get up to $1.8 million under an antitrust settlement with three of the nation's largest book publishers.

Attorney General Bill Schuette made the announcement on Thursday, as part of a settlement with attorneys general for other states.

Hachette Book Group Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC, and Simon & Schuster Inc. have agreed to pay more than $69 million to consumers.

The agreement resolves antitrust claims of an alleged conspiracy to fix the prices of electronic books.

The three publishers also will have to allow all online retailers to competitively price all e-books in the future.
