Remains found in burned car in Mackinac County

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post are trying to determine the identity of remains found in a burning vehicle Tuesday. 

Troopers were called around 6 a.m. to East Simmons Road in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township on a report of a vehicle that was fully engulfed in the middle of the road. The human remains were found once the flames were extinguished.

Officials say dental records and/or DNA testing will be used to determine the person’s identity.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the St. Ignace Post at 643-7582.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
