Soo woman sentenced for carjacking, other charges

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Sault Ste. Marie woman charged with carjacking has been sentenced in Marquette County Circuit Court. 

Cassandra McKelvie, 29, was accused in February of trying to enter people’s cars in Marquette. She allegedly grabbed the steering wheel of one vehicle and pulled the driver out, but the driver was able to take the keys out of the ignition.

McKelvie was charged with carjacking, assault or assault and battery, and illegal entry. She was sentenced last week to one year in jail and 24 months’ probation. She has credit for 81 days served.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
