Two arrested after ramming Negaunee Police car
NEGAUNEE, MI-- Two people are in the Marquette County Jail for stealing a vehicle and ramming a police car with it.
Monday around 11:15 p.m. Ishpeming Police issued a “Be On the Lookout” bulletin for a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with Wisconsin plates that was involved in an attempted theft from a car and garage in the area. An off-duty Ishpeming officer spotted the suspect vehicle at the Negaunee Citgo and radioed its location and license plate number. Police learned the Jeep had been stolen out of Manitowoc, Wisconsin last Saturday.
As Negaunee officers pulled behind the Jeep the driver threw it into reverse and rammed the police car several times in an attempt to flee. The driver and passenger were caught and arrested.
The driver is charged with unlawful driving away of an automobile, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and driving on a suspended license. The passenger is also charged with UDAA. Their names have not yet been released.
The suspects met with several other subjects at the gas station. Police issued the group several citations for minor in possession and arrested one for driving on a suspended license.
