West Nile virus found in Marquette County crow

MARQUETTE, MI -- The Marquette County Health Department says the ‘West Nile Virus’ has been found in a crow found in Marquette County this month. The virus has been present in Michigan since 2001… and has been found in mosquitos in Marquette County. The virus is spread through mosquito bites.

Symptoms of W-N-V include fever, headaches, body aches and sometimes skin rash and/or swollen glands. People experiencing symptoms consistent with W-N-V should contact their health care provider.

The health department says the risks of becoming infected with the virus can be reduced by using EPA registered insect repellent… wearing protective clothing – hats, long sleeved shirts and long pants – when outdoors… using mosquito netting over strollers, cribs, and beds, and when sleeping outdoors… installing effective window screens in homes… and eliminating standing water outside your home.
