Compact Discoveries: Classically Irish
Thursday, March 15, 12pm
You don’t have to be Irish to write Irish music any more than you have to be Jewish to love bagels. So this hour includes American composer Leroy Anderson’s “Irish Suite” and English composer Frank Bridge’s “An Irish Melody: Londonderry Air,” as well as two pieces by composers who were actually born in Ireland: Victor Herbert and Hamilton Harty.
‘If ye can see the mountains …’
Thursday, March 15, 3pm
Celtic ‘n’ roots music, ‘n’ craic from Northern Ireland, hosted by Raymond McCullough, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with music from: Pól O’Ceallaigh, The Elders, Hobos In Limbo, The Barley Boys, Rodney Cordner & Jean-Pierre Rudolph, Green Man, The Merry Blacksmiths, Shantalla.
Symphony Space Live: A Celtic Celebration
Friday, March 16, 3pm
It’s not just for St. Patrick’s Day. From Brittany to Gallicia, Scotland to Arcadia, The Isle of Man to Ireland, Celtic musicians do extraordinary things with their fiddles, their pipes and their bows. From the stages of Symphony Space, Grammy nominated Blue Note recording artist STEFON HARRIS hosts a festival of Celtic music featuring the ensemble FLOOK, fiddlers KEVIN BURKE, CHRISTIAN LEMAITRE & ANDRE BRUNET, and singer KARAN CASEY. We also pay tribute to the late Scottish fiddler Johnny Cunningham and hear excerpts from his Symphony Space performance.
