fatal house fire

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man has died in a house fire. 

WLUC-TV reports Public Safety officers were called to 301 North 12th Street Tuesday around 10:20 p.m. and encountered fire on the second floor. They were told a man was trapped upstairs. After officers extinguished the fire they found a deceased man in his late 30s.

The man’s name has not been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Ford River Township Fire Department, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police.

LAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   Police are investigating a fatal house fire in Luce County.

Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post and Newberry Detachment were dispatched to a residence on County Road 417 in Lakefield Township. After the fire was extinguished a deceased individual was found among the debris.

Officials say no foul play is suspected at this time, and the fire remains under investigation.

TROUT CREEK, MI--   Authorities have released the identities of the two males killed in a house fire in Trout Creek over the weekend. 

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Sunday around 6:40 a.m. on Old Mill Town Road. Deputies found the bodies of David Saubert, 48, and David Saubert, Jr., 6, in the residence.

The house was a total loss. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.

TROUT CREEK, MI--   Two people have been killed in a house fire in Trout Creek. 

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Sunday around 6:40 a.m. to a residence on Old Mill Town Road. Officials say the house was occupied by two males—one 48-years-old and one 6-years old. Both were found dead in the residence. Their names are being withheld, pending notification of family.

The house was a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

CALUMET, MI--   One person died in a house fire in Calumet over the weekend.

Details are few, but WLUC-TV reports it happened Saturday night on the 300 block of 5th Street. It looks as though the fire broke out on the first floor.

No names have been released and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Drug-sniffing dogs with the Michigan State Police were reportedly brought into the building Monday.

The Calumet Police Department has not released any more information at this time. 

UPDATE, 1/10/18:  The two deceased individuals have been identified as Krista Urbanc, 22, and Zachary Johnson, 23. Marquette Police say both victims lived at the residence.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Police and Fire departments are investigating a fatal house fire in the city. 

Monday night around 11:35 officers were called to a structure fire at 1026 Lincoln Avenue. Firefighters found two people dead inside the home.

BEECHER, WI (AP)--   Authorities in northeastern Wisconsin say an elderly woman is dead after a house fire.

A passer-by reported the fire in the Town of Beecher around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The Marinette County Sheriff's Office says the body of the woman was found after firefighters put out the blaze.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

Two dogs also died in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

GLADSTONE, MI--   Police have released the name of the man killed in a house fire in Gladstone last 

Thursday.

Around 5:20 p.m. Gladstone Public Safety was called to 509 Loueda Avenue on a report of a fire.  They were told an elderly disabled man may still be in the home.

When the fire was extinguished officials found the body of Ivan Rufus Ryan, 87. 

The cause of the fire and Ryan’s cause of death remain under investigation.  

GLADSTONE, MI--   A Gladstone man has died in a house fire.

Officers from Gladstone Public Safety were called Thursday around 5:20 p.m. to the 500 block of Loueda Avenue in the South Bluff area.  They found flames coming out of the structure, which was filled with smoke, and were told an 87-year-old disabled man may still be inside.

Once the fire was extinguished police found the man had died. 

The victim’s name is not being released at this time. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal.

GWINN, MI--   Police have arrested a Gwinn man for setting a Sawyer house fire that killed a woman in May. 

Steven Scott Zintman was taken into custody following an investigation by Forsyth Township Police, the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal, and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab in Marquette.  He’s charged with first-degree arson and felony murder in the death of Sally Plume.  She died in a fire at 609 Valkyrie Street May 5.
