HOUGHTON, MI-- The Houghton County Board is considering putting a jail expansion millage on the November ballot.
The Daily Mining Gazette says the board will meet July 26 to discuss ballot language.
The county jail has dealt with overcrowding issues for some time and has operated at capacity at several points over the past year. Commissioners are considering a $4 million to $5 million plan that would wrap the addition around the back of the county courthouse.
The millage for the proposal could amount to 1 mill over 10 years or .5 mill over 20 years.
