Fatality reported at Norway Speedway last week

NORWAY, MI— A flagman at the Norway Speedway was killed in a racing accident on Friday.

Greg Maas, 65, of Iron Mountain had worked at the track for more than 30 years. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says a race car hit him near the entrance to the pit area around 9:15 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in his name.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Norway Police Department, North Alert First Responders, and Integrity Care EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
