Ishpeming man struck by semi

MARQUETTE, MI--   A second pedestrian has been struck and killed by a vehicle in Marquette.

City Police say the crash happened Sunday around 6:44 p.m. on US-41 near the Econo Lodge hotel. 

A tractor trailer operated by a 30-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba man was southbound when the driver noticed a man walking northbound on the shoulder of the highway.  The driver changed from the right lane to the passing lane, but the pedestrian crossed the road in front of the semi and was struck. 

The victim is identified as Thomas Pizziola, 31, of Ishpeming.

The accident remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
