HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI--   A downstate man has drowned in Lake Superior near a Houghton County park.

Sheriff’s deputies were called Wednesday around 12:50 p.m. to McLain State Park.  They say a stranded swimmer, identified as Andrew Kneeshaw, 49, of Grand Blanc, was yelling for help off shore.  A nearby surfer helped Kneeshaw to land and started CPR.  Law enforcement and medical personnel also performed CPR at the scene.

Kneeshaw was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
