Marquette County, MI – The Marquette County Road Commission is struggling to preserve services in the region. Engineer manager Jim Iwanicki says the Road Commission's budget is based on Michigan's gas and weight tax. He notes that revenue hasn't changed since 1997, which means the commission is having a harder time serving the public.
Iwanicki says in an effort to save money, the Commission has had to cut back on staff, become more efficient in its operations, and prioritize projects. He says no layoffs are on the horizon, but that will have to be reevaluated if the revenue situation doesn't change in two or three years.
