Woodland Sky Native American Dance Company at The Crystal Theatre

Crystal Falls, MI -- Woodland Sky Native American Dance Companycomes to the Crystal Theatre on Friday, June 15, 7:00 p.m. to present a musical & theatrical story of Native American culture.  The heartbeat of Mother Earth echoed with traditional drums, the whisper of a flute as a gentle breeze through a stand of cedar.  Century old tales told with eagle feathers, moccasins, hoop dancers and the legend of warriors and hunters.
 
 

 
 
Established in 2013, Woodland Sky consists of Native American dancers from the Ojibwe, Sioux, Potawatomi and Apache tribes. The group portrays all styles of dancing in this region which include traditional, fancy, jingle, grass and hoop. Their focus is the telling of historic tales and stories using traditional native songs and dances
 
Woodland Sky’s mission statement is, “To provide a quality, authentic and respectful Native American dance performance/demonstration with experienced Native American dancers. To educate the viewer on traditional Native American stories, culture and values using authentic songs, music and dance.”  Not only will your eyes and senses be awed with the talent of these dancers, through their regalia and dancing you will learn what it means to be Native American, and why they hold so true to themselves and their ethnicity. Everyone will take away a bit of history while being entertained through a musical theatrical production.
 
 

 
Woodland Sky dancers will be accompanied by live drummers and Nicole LaRoche on flute.  LaRoche is a member of Brulé, a contemporary Native American music group based in South Dakota.  Brulé has become one of the top-selling Native American recording artists with more than a million CDs sold worldwide. "
 
 
 
Woodland Sky has performed in NFL half-time shows, JEEP commercials, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Pow-Wow Performance in Ornans, France, the Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Peninsula State Fairs, Chicago World Tourism Trade Show, Chicago to name a few.
 
 
 
Woodland Sky’s co-founder Michelle Reed (along with Shane Mitchell) is an enrolled member of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe. Reed is dedicated to sharing her passion and culture with communities far and wide.  Reed is also the owner of MReed Designs which creates the dance regalia for Woodland Sky.  Reed’s designs, intricate one-of-a-kind creations, are so in demand custom orders can bee a year in waiting. Reed’s designs include custom handmade purses.
 
 

 
This event is the third in Crystal Theatre’s ’18 Gem of a Season series.
