Irish folk band Altan talks about their roots, helping younger musicians

Nicole Walton

Public Radio 90's Nicole Walton sat down in the studio with three members of the Irish group Altan this morning.

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Clare Friel, and Dáithí Sproule talked about the importance of keeping musical traditions alive, teaching them to the younger generation, and learning how to not expect anything along the way.

Altan is performing in concert Wednesday, November 2 at 7:30 at the Northern Michigan University ballrooms as part of the Beaumier Heritage concert series. Tickets are available at the door or here.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
