Eagle Mine given Sentinels of Safety award

MARQUETTE, MI— Eagle Mine has won an award for safety.

It received the Sentinels of Safety award for 2019 and 2020 for the Small Underground Metal Group by the National Mining Association. The award was first established in 1925 by President Herbert Hoover. It seeks to recognize excellence in safety standards and accident prevention measures and is considered one of the premier safety awards for the mining industry.

The award recognizes coal and mineral mining operations in ten categories for recording the most hours in a calendar year without a single lost-time injury. A minimum of 4,000 hours is required for award consideration.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
