Michigan gas prices are up to start the new year

DEARBORN, MI— Gas prices in Michigan are up 21 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.20 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 29 cents less than this time last month but still 10 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $48 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $30 from 2022's highest last June.

"Michigan motorists are seeing higher gas prices as they ring in 2023," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "An increase in crude oil prices to close out 2022, along with a busy holiday travel season have led to higher pump prices."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.21 per gallon, about 19 cents more than last week’s average but still 1 cent less than this same time last year.
