Dozens of UP businesses to get workforce training through Going PRO money

LANSING, MI— The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity has awarded 41 U.P. businesses $1.6 million in Going PRO grants.

The money will provide workforce training and development to new and existing employees starting in January.

Eligible training programs supported by the Going PRO Talent Fund include classroom training and on-the-job training for new employees and apprentices. The fund also supports upskilling and reskilling for existing employees.

Grants through the Going PRO Talent Fund are awarded in partnership with Michigan Works! Agencies. Participating employers define their key training needs, then work with their local Michigan Works! Agency and other partners to develop strategic training plans.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
