Man arrested for Escanaba shooting

ESCANABA, MI--   Officials continue to investigate a shooting Sunday night in Escanaba. 

Public Safety officials received a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. from an apartment complex on the north side of the city.  Upon arrival officers found a 20-year-old Escanaba man on the floor with a gunshot wound to his face. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital, then transferred to Marquette General Hospital.

Officers questioned Andrew Robert Maynard, 26, of Escanaba about the incident and later arrested him for reckless discharge of a firearm.  The charge is punishable by up to two years in prison and a $2,000 fine. 

A preliminary hearing is set for August 2 in Delta County District Court. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
