Schoolcraft County man charged with trying to kill Manistique resident

MANISTIQUE, MI-- A Manistique man is lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail on a charge of attempted murder.

Public safety officials say Gordon Daniel Baker, 35, was arrested for breaking into the Range Street home of Michael Chapek, 51, early Wednesday morning and assaulting him.

Chapek was taken to the hospital, treated, and released.

Baker is charged with first-degree home invasion, assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and being an habitual offender-4^th offense. He remains jailed without bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for September 9 in Schoolcraft County District Court.
