Delta County police chase leads to drug arrests

DELTA COUNTY, MI— Two Wisconsin residents were arrested in Delta County last week on drug-related charges.

Friday around 8:20 p.m. deputies tried to stop a vehicle on South Lincoln Road in Escanaba. The vehicle failed to yield and a chase began.

As police pursued the vehicle, the front-seat passenger began throwing things out the window in an attempt to disable the Sheriff’s vehicles. The pursuit entered Menominee County, where officers deployed “stop sticks.” The driver of the suspect vehicle continued southbound on three tires and entered the city of Menominee. The pursuit led to the Interstate Bridge, where the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

The 23-year-old male driver and 18-year-old female passenger, both of Green Bay, were taken into custody.

The driver is charged with fleeing and eluding and possession of meth, among other charges. The woman is charged with two counts of obstructing justice and possession of meth. Both are lodged in the Delta County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
