Man on parole from prison arrested on drug charges in Gogebic County

IRONWOOD, MI— An Ironwood man who was on parole from prison has been arrested in Gogebic County on meth charges.

Brian Panek, 41, served time for possession of meth and unlawfully driving away an automobile in Mecosta County. He was released in August of 2022.

Last month, the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team received information that Panek was involved in distributing meth throughout the county. Investigators learned Panek had driven downstate to pick up the drug for suspected distribution. They stopped him when he returned to Gogebic County and arrested him for violating his parole and for operating while intoxicated.

A search warrant executed on Panek’s vehicle uncovered more than 100-grams of meth. He’s charged with delivery/manufacture of meth, two counts of possession of meth on school or library property, delivery/possession of meth in a park, and maintaining a drug house.

Panek remains lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
