Graveraet Elementary honored for being exemplary school

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette school has been named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon school.

Graveraet Elementary is the only Upper Peninsula school to make the list. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

Graveraet was honored for being an exemplary, high-performing school, utilizing Chromebook and iPad initiatives, positive behavior assemblies, healthy walk and bike to school days, and a check-in/check-out program for at-risk students, among other initiatives.

Officials say the coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
