Delta County anglers honored by NRC

ONTONAGON, MI--   The Michigan Natural Resources Commission has given a Partners in Conservation Award to a Delta County fishing group.

DNR Director Keith Creagh says Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fishermen, Inc. is dedicated to improving the fishery in Lake Michigan and Upper Peninsula waters.  He says the group is also committed to providing opportunities to introduce youth to the sport of fishing.

Club members host several fishing derbies each year, hold a Special Olympics fishing event at the DNR’s Upper Peninsula Pocket Park every summer, and fund two scholarships for local students.

The award was given during the NRC’s annual U.P meeting last Thursday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
