Marquette Township town hall to focus on clean energy legislation

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— State Senator Ed McBroom is holding a town hall meeting in Marquette Township Thursday to discuss legislation requiring the state to have a 100-percent clean energy standard by 2040.

The Republican says there’s a lot of public interest in the recently-passed bills.

McBroom is against the legislation, saying it takes away local control over where solar panels and wind turbines should be installed. He also says the Upper Peninsula’s immediate need is cost reduction and increased energy reliability.

McBroom says he’s invited other U.P. legislators to attend the event, which takes place at 6 p.m. at the Marquette Township Hall.

The senator and Representative Jenn Hill have also been invited to a meeting with Marquette Township officials and other local leaders on Monday, November 20th. That meeting takes place at 11 a.m.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
