MARQUETTE, MI— Don’t look at the sun without special glasses.
Monday’s eclipse is an amazing natural event, but you could hurt your retinas if you’re not careful. Even if most of the sun is blocked out, light from the uncovered portion could damage your eyes.
The eclipse is scheduled to begin at about 2 p.m. Eastern, reach totality around 3:11, and end at about 4:30. In the Marquette area, the sun will be about 80-percent covered.
Northern Michigan University is holding a community viewing event. Weather permitting, equipment will be set up on the academic mall between the rotunda entrance to the Science Building and Jamrich and Harden Halls. A NASA TV live broadcast will also be available, regardless of weather, inside the Science Building from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.
