Northern hosts 10th Annual Anderton's Earth Week

MARQUETTE, MI— Monday—Earth Day—kicks off the 10th Annual “Anderton’s Earth Week” at NMU.

Students, faculty, and staff have created a number of activities to honor the Earth and learn ways to leave a lighter footprint.

Highlights include a screening of the film Bad River Monday at 7 p.m. in Jamrich Hall Room 1100. The documentary chronicles the Wisconsin Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and its ongoing fight for sovereignty.

Other activities throughout Earth Week include outdoor spring clean-ups, forest bathing, composting, and a trivia contest and map giveaway. A link to the full schedule of events is here.

Anderton’s Earth Week honors the memory of Dr. John Anderton, an NMU alumnus, professor, and former head of the Department of Earth, Environmental & Geographical Sciences who passed away unexpectedly in March 2014 at age 49.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
