ATC to cut vegetation by Baraga County power line with helicopter

BARAGA COUNTY, MI— Don’t be surprised if you see a saw dangling from a helicopter in Baraga County this week.

ATC is trimming trees along a 69,000-volt power line between the M-38 Substation in L’ Anse and the JH Warden Substation in Pelkie.

ATC has contracted with Aerial Solutions, Inc. to manage vegetation growth along its transmission line corridors. The work will be accomplished using an aerial power saw with rotary blades that is suspended from a helicopter on a 90-foot vertical boom.

Officials are asking anyone in the area to stay a minimum of 300 feet away from the helicopter, trucks and ground crews.

The work is weather-dependent, so its duration could fluctuate.
