Fire causes unknown amount of damage in Marquette home

MARQUETTE, MI— Fire has damaged a Marquette residence.

Wednesday the Marquette City Fire Department was called to 1119 Presque Isle Avenue around noon. Officers say the fire appeared to have started in the basement and spread into a first-floor bedroom.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. All the home’s residents were able to get out of the house and no injuries were reported.

The Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, Marquette City Police, SEMCO, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
