Wildfire risk reduction help available to UP

MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership and Great Lakes Climate Corps are offering free wildfire risk reduction assistance across the Upper Peninsula.

Local units of government, tribes, and qualifying private homeowners are eligible.

Wildfire mitigation includes removing small trees, brush, and woody debris within 30 feet of a building or public infrastructure. Removing such flammable material creates a protective buffer around structures and dramatically reduces the risk of damage from wildfires.

Elderly, disabled, or economically disadvantaged homeowners will be prioritized for residential fire mitigation services.

More information is available by calling the SWP at 906-228-6095, extension 18 or by going to www.superiorwatersheds.org.
