Supplemental spending bill would address remote school districts

LANSING, MI--   Representative Sara Cambensy has introduced a bill that would secure funding for small, isolated school districts in the state.

The supplemental spending bill comes in response to one of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s line item vetoes in the state budget. It would secure $7 million to address transportation challenges faced by districts spread over a large geographic area and provide support for five U.P. districts and surrounding islands.

Cambensy says several local school districts have expressed concerns over their ability to operate if additional funding isn’t secured. She notes while other line items need to be restored, she felt the funding for small schools needed to be addressed first.
