Senators ask Postal Service to stop service changes

WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Senator Gary Peters and 25 other senators are asking the U.S. Postal Service to pause all changes to its processing and delivery network.

The bipartisan group sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Tuesday after USPS said it would move forward with a plan to move outgoing mail processing from Iron Mountain to Green Bay. Peters says that would create significant mail disruptions in the U.P.

The letter asks the Postal Service to pause all changes that could slow down mail delivery until the potential impacts are further studied by the Postal Regulatory Commission and addressed by the Postal Service.

Peters expressed concern over the impacts such changes have already had on communities across the country and the potential impact to timely mail delivery that further changes could cause.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
