Michigan Health Endowment Fund awards grants to health initiatives across the UP

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan Health Endowment Fund is awarding grants to several Upper Peninsula organizations.

The money for these groups will be directed toward behavioral health programs.

The Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency is getting $500,000 for its System for Sustainable Youth Services in Schools; the Michigan State Medical Society will receive $175,000 to connect treatment courts and health professionals; Northern Michigan University is getting nearly $500,000 to increase the number of behavioral health service providers through an online training program; and the Western UP Health Department will receive nearly $160,000 to employ a peer recovery coach to work directly with women in public health programs.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
